Slides for lectures and teaching

Equations typeset at build time and revealed a line at a time, a quiz the class answers from their phones, and the notes left on the slides for students to read afterwards.

A slide titled From one period to the coefficients, showing two Fourier coefficient integrals
The maths slide from the snippet, in the lecture theme, after its last step.

Why it fits

What Kadal Deck gives you here

Maths without screenshots

Write LaTeX between dollar signs. KaTeX renders it at build time, and an aligned block can light up one line per click.

Check understanding as you go

A timed quiz with a leaderboard, a poll, or a word cloud; students answer on their phones without an app or an account.

Notes for after class

audienceNotes: true shows each slide's notes to students who open the deck later, so the slides make sense without you.

Free for a class

The free plan covers public decks and a room of 25. Bigger lecture halls need Starter (100) or Pro (500).

The deck

A real one, ready to copy

A week's lecture: a title, two equations that appear one per click, and a 30-second quiz. It passes kadal-deck check as it stands.

# The Fourier series

Any periodic signal is a sum of sines

---

## From one period to the coefficients

$$ {1|2|all}
\begin{aligned}
a_n &= \frac{2}{T}\int_0^T x(t)\cos(n\omega_0 t)\,dt \\
b_n &= \frac{2}{T}\int_0^T x(t)\sin(n\omega_0 t)\,dt
\end{aligned}
$$

<Notes>Derive a_n on the board first. [click] b_n is the same with a sine. [click] Both together.</Notes>

Step by step

From an empty folder to the room

  1. Write the week's deck

    One deck.mdx per lecture, in the same repository as the course notes.

  2. Teach from the presenter view

    Open the quiz when you reach it; the leaderboard updates as answers come in.

  3. Publish it for the class

    Students get a link that works on a phone, with your notes under each slide.

    npx kadal-deck publish
    pnpm exec kadal-deck publish
    yarn kadal-deck publish
    bunx kadal-deck publish
  4. Hand out a PDF

    Export one page per click step, or one per slide, for students who want to print.
