Kadal Deck, in a window of its own.

Your decks without a browser around them, and a second window to share on a call that shows the room your slides and never your notes.

First launch

Installing, and the warning you will see once

The app isn't signed with an Apple or Microsoft developer certificate yet, so your computer asks you to confirm it the first time. Updates are signed with our own key and the app checks that signature before it installs anything.

macOS

  1. Open the .dmg and drag Kadal Deck into Applications.
  2. Start it from Applications. Not from the disk image or Downloads: macOS runs an app opened there from a temporary read-only copy, and updates cannot install into it.
  3. macOS says it could not verify “Kadal Deck” is free of malware. Click Done, not Move to Trash.
  4. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to “Kadal Deck” was blocked and click Open Anyway, then confirm with your password or Touch ID.

You do this once: updates the app installs itself never ask again. The steps are the same on macOS 15 Sequoia and 26 Tahoe; on macOS 14 and earlier you can instead Control-click the app, choose Open, and confirm.

Windows

  1. Run the setup.exe. If your browser says it isn't commonly downloaded, choose Keep.
  2. Windows shows Windows protected your PC. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Follow the installer. Kadal Deck opens from the Start menu from then on.

Windows 11 already has the WebView2 runtime the app draws with; on Windows 10 the installer fetches it if it is missing. Updates install with a short progress window and reopen the app.

Linux

AppImage, any distribution. Keep it in a folder you own, such as ~/Applications:

chmod +x kadal-deck_*_linux-x86_64.AppImage

Then run it. If it doesn't start, install FUSE 2: libfuse2 on Ubuntu 22.04, libfuse2t64 on 24.04 and later. It updates itself by replacing the file in place.

.deb, Debian and Ubuntu:

sudo apt install ./kadal-deck_*_linux-amd64.deb

The .deb version downloads its updates on its own and asks for your password to install them. If your desktop has no password prompt, install the new .deb from this page the same way.

Updates

Updates install themselves

You download Kadal Deck once. After that:

  • The app checks deck.kadal.cc for a newer version in the background.
  • It downloads the update and verifies its signature against the key built into the app, so it can only ever install a release we signed.
  • The new version takes over when the app restarts. A release that fixes something serious can require it before you carry on.
